  • The conundrum : Cutting costs whilst driving quality and performance improvements in front line services

    Driving improvements in the quality and performance of public sector front line services while dramatically cutting costs; an impossibility?

    Much has been publicised on the coalition’s drive to make £6bn of public sector efficiency cuts as part of its wider programme to address Britain’s budget deficit.  Debate has focused on whether these wide ranging cuts can be inflicted on the public sector without making large scale redundancies, damaging services or the economy as a whole.

A process and cultural change programme delivered an improvement in patient flow and secured a 25% reduction in length of stay per patient treated. Physician participation was a critical element and 66% of the improvements targeted specifically their area of work.
